Sound familiar?

The jewelry is in the drawer. The questions are in your head.

“It's stamped 14K. So it's gold, right?”

Stamps can be bought for a few dollars. Chapter 2 shows what else has to agree with the stamp before you believe it.

“The cash-for-gold man offered me $90.”

Was that fair? Chapter 9 gives you the melt math in one line, and Chapter 10 shows you how to get three written offers.

“Mom's ring went in for sizing. Is that the same stone?”

Chapter 11 is the drop-off routine that makes a switch almost impossible: photos, the loupe and the right receipt.

Before you buy

A few useful answers.

Is this a printed book or a download?

Two PDFs: the 80-page guide and the 15-page Jeweler's Toolkit. Read them on a phone, tablet or computer, and print the tools on US Letter paper.

How do I get my copy?

After a successful payment, the thank-you page gives you both links to open and save. You also receive a receipt by email.

Is this an appraisal?

No. It teaches you what you can check at home, what it is likely worth as gold or silver, and when a piece needs a gemologist or a certified appraiser. It tells you what to ask them.

Do I need special equipment?

Many checks need nothing but your eyes and a sheet of paper. The rest use a simple kit (loupe, magnet, small scale, ceramic tile, acid kit) that costs roughly $40 to $60. Chapter 1 explains each item.

Will the tests damage my jewelry?

The gentle tests come first and do no harm. The few that can mark a piece (streak, acid) are labeled in red, come last, and the book tells you when never to use them.

Does it cover lab-grown diamonds and moissanite?

Yes, honestly: what a home tester can tell you, what it can't, and why a lab-grown diamond passes every home test.

What about Native American turquoise and silver?

Chapter 7 covers turquoise, stabilized and dyed stones, silversmith hallmarks and the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, with the respect those pieces deserve.

What if it isn't useful to me?

From the comments

What viewers ask me most.

“I have a 0.75 g 14K ring. What is it worth today?”

About $58 of gold at the 14 October 2026 price. A buyer pays a percentage of that. Chapter 9 shows the math and Tool 2 lets you redo it with today's price.

“Should I take the stones out before I sell my gold?”

Ask for them back. Small stones are often bought for very little, and a good stone is worth more on its own. Chapter 9 explains.

“My vintage piece is a little magnetic. Do I still acid test it?”

Maybe not. A pull can mean a steel core or clasp spring. Chapter 3 walks through what to check first and when acid is worth it.

“How do I know if it's Sleeping Beauty turquoise?”

Honestly, you can't prove a mine at home. Chapter 7 shows what you can check and who can tell you more.

“My 18K piece turned out not to be 18K.”

Stamps can be bought. Chapter 2 shows how to read a stamp and what else has to agree with it.

“Should I buy a diamond ring in Europe?”

Chapter 13 gives the honest answer, along with what to check before you buy anything preloved.

Questions from the comments under my videos, lightly shortened. The answers are general; a piece in your hand may need a professional.
